The expectations you set in the interview process set the tone for the entire employment of each hire.Merit Kahn, CSP, CEO at Sellect Sales, had some great insight on this topic. Before making a hire, "lay out what will get you fired, and what will get you promoted."It seems simple, but this type information and transparency can make a huge impact an employee's motivation, performance, and overall satisfaction with their job.Career growth is probably the top reason I hear when people are looking to change jobs, so being able to create a plan without being held to a timeline is a great way to get employees excited about the future and motivated to perform at a higher level.Giving examples of what will get you fired deters that specific behavior that you want to avoid, and if issues do arrive, makes the conversation you need to have that much easier. And as the lawyer of the group added, use examples so you aren't contractually bound to it!
